One of the best kid-friendly recipes. Kids can unwrap Hershey Kisses, help to dry cherries, hold by the stem and dip into chocolate, place on the ears and paint the face.
You will need:
Maraschino cherries with stems
Hershey’s kisses (same number as you have cherries-unwrapped)
Almond slices (a pair for each mouse)
1/2 lb Milk chocolate
White chocolate for making faces(1/4 lb)
Microwave safe bowl, spoon, wax paper, toothpicks, paper plates
Fold several layers of paper towels onto a plate. Lay the cherries onto the place to allow cherries to dry.
Organize almond slices into pairs of equal size.
Melt milk chocolate in a microwavable bowl deep enough to dip cherries into. To melt chocolate put microwave on 50% power and microwave in 30 second increments, stirring after each time. It takes between 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes for chocolate to melt and be smooth. Be careful not to burn.
Make sure cherries are dry on the outside so the chocolate will stick.
Hold cherry by the stem and dip into the melted chocolate allowing extra to drip off. Set onto a paper plate that has a sheet of wax paper on it.
Attach a Hershey kiss for the mouse head.
Carefully hold two almond slices and dip ends into chocolate. Place the slices just between the kiss and cherry so they stick up as ears. You may need to hold these in place for 10 seconds or so.
Melt the white chocolate the same way as the milk chocolate. Using a toothpick, dip the toothpick into the white chocolate and give your mouse two eyes. You can also paint the tip of his nose.
If more than a few children are making mice, put their name on the paper plate and then put the wax paper on top.
